Fine arts Section of the Dorrigo Show
details of the 2018 exhibition will be provided later in the year
Since 1967, at the invitation of the Dorrigo & Guy Fawkes Agricultural Show Society, the Dorrigo Visual Arts Group has organised the Fine Arts Section at the annual Show. The exhibition usually attracts over one hundred entries in two Classes (Open and Works on Paper), with prize money totalling $2,550.
In addition to Class awards, there are eight special awards covering most aspects of visual arts, including portraiture and traditional drawing skills. The Champion Exhibit, with prize money of $600 and the Reserve Champion prize of $250, are both sponsored by Bellingen Shire Council. Additionally this year there will be two Youth Awards, first of $100 and second of $50, also donated by Bellingen Shire Council. The exhibition covers almost half the wall space in the Show Pavilion, providing a stunning backdrop to the other interesting and beautiful Section displays.
A preview of the exhibition, presentation of awards and judge’s critique, will be held on the wednesday before the show.
Over the years the preview has proved a popular social event plus an opportunity to purchase first-class visual art. Entry is by donation, and each year Group members donate work to be raffled. Invitations to attend are extended to all who enjoy the great diversity of art.
